Apple Donuts

Apple Donuts are a delicious and fun craft project that both kids and adults can enjoy. Plus it’s a fun way to encourage kids to eat their fruits and veggies. I made these Apple Donuts my nieces and nephew a few years ago for Valentine’s Day and it was so much fun!

Healthy eating can be fun and enjoyable! If you are making these with kids, let them help with various stages of the prepping and assembling process. Let them be involved in picking out the ingredients and letting them decorate their apples. It’s a fun way to let them both participate and use their imagination for how to decorate with different healthful foods.

I love making these for myself too. Trust me all the possibilities of combinations- this adds texture and flavors to the simple good old fashioned peanut butter and apple combo. It’s surely a decadent treat you can enjoy as a snack or a dessert.

My combo in the photos: raw almond butter, pomegranate, thawed frozen blueberries, cinnamon, and a sprinkle of date sugar. So good!! ?

Other combos I have tried:

+ peanut butter with pecans, pomegranates, blueberries

+ peanut butter with cinnamon, date sugar, and raisins

+ peanut butter with pears (sliced small) and walnuts

+ peanut butter with carrots (made into little flowers) with blueberries and walnuts

+ peanut butter with pistachios, unsweetened coconut, and dark chocolate

+peanut butter with blueberries, strawberries, pistachios, dark chocolate, and unsweetened coconut

Use your imagination and have fun!

Apple Donuts

Ingredients:

? Apples

?Nut or seed butter of choice (e.g. peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower butter)

?Nuts and/ or seeds of choice (e.g. walnuts, pistachios, pumpkin seeds)

? Fresh, dried, or frozen fruit (e.g. pomegranate, berries, pear slices, raisins, kiwi, dates or date sugar)

?Veggies (e.g. carrots or celery)

?Spices (e.g. cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice blend)

?? Others: dark chocolate, unsweetened coconut flakes

? Cookie Cutters

Method:

1. PREP INGREDIENTS: Wash the apples and other fruit/ veggies using. Prep the ingredients and put into small dishes. If applicable, cut the fruit and veggies into small pieces and shapes so they can sit on the apple. Crush the nuts or seeds.
3. CUT APPLES: When ready to create, slice the apples into circles (so that the core is in the center of all of them). Use the cookie cutters to remove the centers (carefully remove the cutters so that the apple doesn’t break- speaking from experience).
4. ASSEMBLE: Spread the nut or seed butter on the apple slices. And then top with your favorite ingredients. Bite in and savor this fancy apple treat! ?
